Dunedin's last week of September asks a little of you before it pours you a beer. Between September 24 and October 2 the town offers a Saturday morning cleanup on the Causeway, a Sunday race on the Pinellas Trail that ends at a brewery, the opening nights of the longest running Oktoberfest in town, and a community theater murder mystery with golf in the title. Saturday, September 26, from nine until noon, the Salty Soul Foundation holds its monthly cleanup on the Dunedin Causeway at 61 Causeway Boulevard, joined by other Tampa Bay environmental groups. Gloves, buckets, and bags are supplied; you bring sun protection. The foundation says it has removed more than thirty three thousand pounds of trash from Florida and California beaches since 2017. It is free, with registration through Eventbrite.

Timing and Planning
Go early, because the sun on the Causeway is serious by eleven. The Causeway sits outside the Honeymoon Island gate, so you do not need a park pass to take part. If you would rather ease into the day, the Dunedin Downtown Market runs from nine to one the same morning in the History Museum lot at 349 Main Street, with more than fifty vendors, so one of you can clean while the other shops, and lunch can be the reward.

Sunday, September 27 at 8:30 in the morning, runners and walkers set out from HOB Brewing Company at 941 Huntley Avenue onto the fully paved Pinellas Trail. The 5K run or walk is fifty dollars, the two loop 10K is sixty five, and the three loop 15K, running only, is seventy five. Every finisher receives what the organizer proudly calls a large and substantial medal, electronic timing, a shirt, and, for those twenty one and over, a free draft craft beer. Strollers and dogs are welcome.
What to Expect
A small field. The race is capped at two hundred fifty and typically sells out, so check the RunSignup page before you lace up. Packet pickup is race morning only, and a pre race email with your bib number arrives by noon the day before.

Park free at the Artisan Garage at 356 Monroe Street and walk over. If the race is full, come anyway: the trail through downtown is the best spectator spot in the county, and the breweries along Douglas and Huntley open into the afternoon. Caledonia Brewing at 587 Main Street is in the middle of its own Oktoberfest Weekend, September 25 through 27, with the Jazz Phools Oktoberfest Band on Saturday the 26th from six to ten.

Thursday, October 1 through Sunday, October 4, Dunedin Brewery at 937 Douglas Avenue holds its twenty sixth Oktobeerfest, which it describes as four days and nights of festive beer, German food, and live local music, with free admission. Two of those nights fall in this window. Thursday opens with Dale's Epic Trivia at seven in the Moon Tower and No Standards at eight in the pub. Friday brings Light The Wire at seven in the Moon Tower and Sauce Pocket at nine in the pub.
Best For
Friend groups, couples, and anyone who wants to understand why a town this size has this many breweries. Florida's oldest craft brewery throwing its twenty sixth of anything is a community event as much as a beer one.

Friday, October 2 is the night to pick. Woodwright Brewing, a short walk up the street at 985 Douglas, has traditional Oktoberfest music in its Bierhalle from six to ten the same evening, so you can do both on foot. Use the Artisan Garage or ride the trail in, because Douglas Avenue parking is gone by seven. The festival continues through the weekend with a full Saturday lineup from four in the afternoon.

Friday, October 2 at 7:30 in the evening, Dunedin Showcase Theater and Dunedin Parks and Recreation open Death By Golf, a comedy murder mystery by Gregg Kreutz, at the Dunedin Community Center, 1920 Pinehurst Road. An escaped convict, a newlywed who looks uncannily like him, a golf obsessed grandfather, and an attorney all end up under one roof. Twenty dollars, general seating, with further performances on Saturday, October 3 at 7:30 and Sunday, October 4 at three.
Best For
Couples, parents, and grandparents, and in a town with this many golf carts, more or less everyone. Community theater is one of the quickest ways to see who actually lives in a place.
Timing and Planning
Tickets are sold in person at the Community Center or by phone at 727-812-4530, not online, so call this week. Seating is general, so arrive by seven for a good spot. The Community Center has its own free lot, a welcome change from downtown on an Oktoberfest Friday.
